Klara Persson and I got photographed in my studio in the beginning of the week for an article about children book illustration and art. Here is Klara's latest book "Maximilian och minimilian". She is going to Bologna for the Children book fair and so am I. I'll be a part of the exhibition "Upside down - Contemporary Voices of Swedish Illustration", it will be at the Museo Civico Archeologico di Bologna, Via dell’Archiginnasio 2 , Bologna. Opening: 25 March, 7 p.m. 26 March-14 April. Eva Lindström, Emma Adbåge, Karin Cyrén, Joanna Hellgren, Maria Libert, Emelie Östergren e Moa Schulman. Organized by Hamelin.
I'll be signing my latest italian book "C'era una volta una storia"/"Once upon a time there was a story", from Topipittori, in their stand at the fair at 5 o'clock on monday. Ana Ventura will be there too!

What I am working on

I'm working on another children book for Topipittori (here is the last book - Too Late/Troppo Tardi). The one I'm working on now is, very briefly, about a book and all the fantastic things that can emerge within a book and it's story.

Take a look at these fun paint brush coat hooks, found through Zickermans.

I've been working more this year than ever before, but you always need to do something else. Like eating breakfast with Johan and Sandra. On my way back to work I picked up my copy of the Exquisite Book. Here are two of my favorite spreads, the first flickering through (here's mine).

Vorrei avere

I've got Vorrei avere (maybe something like "I wish I had"?), a new book from Topipittori, in my hands. Written by Giovanna Zoboli and illustrated by Simona Mulazzani. As all their books it is beautiful. An extra plus for the sketches in the end of the book.

Paolo from Topipittori says - "If anyone is going to Bologna, for the Children's BookFair, the original illustrations will be on exhibition in Vignola, at Libreria Castello di Carta, half an hour by train from Bologna station, with the bonus of a marvellous Renaissance castle, the most famous elliptical stairway in the world, and all the sweetness of Torta Barozzi" - I can testify that the torta is very tasty :-)

T h a n k s

I was planning to write it... Janine was quicker, so I just stole her text and changed it so it fitted me :) Since the picture's all mine, this part of the book is my favorite.

Thanks to Amy Ng at Pikaland for participating in the Connections section of the book! We asked some bloggers and collaborators from around the world to write a bit about their appreciation for Camilla's work. Thanks also to Jan Halverson of Poppytalk, Victoria Smith of sfgirlbybay, Julia Rothman of Book by its Cover, Abigail Crompton of Third Drawer Down and Erin Loechner from Design for Mankind.

I want to add a thank you to all my Gothenburg (and Stockholm) friends-through-blogging that is participating in the book - Alexandra, Bibbi, Elisabeth, Karin and Sandra! Thank you :)

Finally I've got my hands on the book about/with myself :). It is full of goodies, there's even a little booklet full of Morran's adventures. Janine has done a increadible job! I've just provided her with pictures, she's done the rest!. Thank you, Janine! I also want to take the opportunity to say thank you to Maria who's written a fantastic foreword! There will be a launch party today at Uppercase, I wish I could join.

It will eventually be available in my webshop.

The Suitcase Series Volume 1:
Camilla Engman

Artist Camilla Engman may live in Gothenburg, Sweden, but her appeal is international. A professional illustrator and exhibiting artist, her images are whimsical, poignant, humourous and insightful. With her keen eye for finding the extraordinary in the everyday, Camilla documents her inspirations and endeavors on her popular blog.(
The Suitcase Series presents in glorious detail the lives of select artists and designers. The books are image-based, full of artwork, sketchbook pages, beautiful photographs and artifacts from where the artists live and work. The book becomes a precious souvenir of a creative journey shared between the reader and the artist.

Camilla’s book also includes a mini booklet about Morran, the little Swedish dog with a big imagination, a glassine envelope containing 4 postcards, and a baggage tag/bookmark: all held together with a custom-printed band. Preorders will ship with a two-colour art print and assorted swedish papers (limited quantity).
